Awards & Grants

Through the Agreement of Cooperation between the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group and the International Military Sports Council (CISM) for the 4th International Congress on Soldiers' Physical Performance 2017 (ICSPP 2017) a number of congress awards and travel grants have been established. The details of each are outlined below.

Congress Awards

The ICSPP Congress Awards acknowledge the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations. The awards are decided at the end of the congress and announced at the congress dinner.

ICSPP-CISM Best Oral Presentation Award

The ICSPP-CISM Best Oral Presentation Award recognises excellence in military physical and physiological performance research. All accepted oral presentations are eligible and will be evaluated on research quality, originality of the work presented, content clarity, presentation / design.

ICSPP-CISM Best Poster Presentation Award

The ICSPP-CISM Best Poster Presentation Award recognises excellence in military physical and physiological performance research. All accepted poster presentations are eligible and will be evaluated on research quality, originality of the work presented, content clarity, presentation / design.

ICSPP-CISM Lifetime Achievement Award

The ICSPP Congress Award for Lifetime Achievement recognises an individual whose hard work and dedication is distinguished across the military physical and physiological performance discipline spanning their lifetime. The judging committee seeks to identify a recipient who is a leader in the field and who strives to advance the industry as a whole.


Travel Grants

ICSPP-CISM Student Travel Grants (total of 3,750 Euro)

Up to five travel grants of 750 Euros per applicant will be offered for graduate students (PhD or MSc) to participate in the 4th ICSPP. Candidates should not yet have completed (i.e. the degree had not been conferred as at 30 June, 2017) their doctoral or masters’ thesis and provide an oral presentation at the congress. Applications including the candidate’s name, institution and current address, congress abstract, a 250 word statement describing the relevance of participation in the 4th ICSPP for the candidate’s research project, résumé, list of publications (if applicable), and a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s doctoral / masters’ thesis supervisor should be filed at the time of abstract submission (Deadline is 30 June, 2017). Selection is on a competitive basis and is judged by the organizing committee of the 4th ICSPP based on the scientific quality and relevance of the submitted abstracts along with the perceived strength of the statement describing the relevance of participation in the 4th ICSPP. Payments will be made to the beneficiaries when acceptance notification to authors is issued on the 18 August 2017.

Successful recipients of the ICSPP-CISM Student Travel Grants will be allocated to a symposia and an ICSPP-CISM Best Student Oral Presentation Award will be conferred.

ICSPP-CISM Early Career Researcher Travel Grants (total of 2,500 Euro)

Up to five travel grants of 500 Euros per applicant will be offered for early career researchers. Candidates should be under 35 years of age, have completed their PhD less than 4 years ago (as at 30 June, 2017) and provide an oral presentation at the congress. Applications including the candidate’s name, institution and current address, congress abstract, a 250 word statement describing the relevance of participation in the 4th ICSPP for the candidate’s research experience, résumé, list of publications should be filed at the time of abstract submission (Deadline is 30 June, 2017). Selection is on a competitive basis and is judged by the organising committee of the 4th ICSPP based on the scientific quality and relevance of the submitted abstracts along with the perceived strength of the statement describing the relevance of participation in the 4th ICSPP. Payments will be made to the beneficiaries when acceptance notification to authors is issued on the 18 August 2017.
