On behalf of the Planning and Advisory Committees, we are delighted to invite you to experience the 4th International Congress on Soldiers’ Physical Performance (ICSPP). This meeting will carry on the rich legacy of information exchange and dialogue among international partners from the first and second meetings hosted by the University of Jyväskylä and Finnish Defense Forces in 2005 and 2011 and the third meeting hosted by the United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in 2014. The 4th ICSPP will be held at the world class Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre which is ideally situated close to the heart of Melbourne on the banks of the iconic Yarra River. Melbourne is Australia’s leader in arts, sports, fashion and has some the finest restaurants in the country.
The ICSPP is the most important international conference in applied military human performance research and therefore attracts experts from all over the world. The congress covers a broad range of disciplines including physical training programs and adaptions, occupational and physical performance, testing and assessment, injury prevention, public health and health promotion, nutritional considerations, human factors, ergonomics, equipment design, biomechanics, load carriage, gender integration issues, thermoregulation and environmental issues, deployment considerations, and psychological and cognitive factors.
The 4th ICSPP will apply a lifecycle theme whereby symposia, poster sessions and featured science sessions by international experts will be organized across key areas including recruitment, training, operational deployment and sustainment. As such, we are confident that the program will appeal not only to the military sector but also to delegates from a range of physically demanding occupations including emergency services, police, fire and ambulance. A number of interactive forums, including roundtables and think-tank discussions will be held to assist in the translation of research to practice, and the identification of research priorities across service members’ lifecycles.
We hope to see you in Melbourne in 2017 for the 4th ICSPP.
